St Kilian’s CS 6th Year Graduation

This year’s 6th Year students at St Kilian’s Community School were celebrated at an online graduation event on Thursday, May 21st. On Tuesday there had been a chill-out afternoon with awards, presentations, pizzas, cake and the ice-cream van, when everyone relaxed and reminisced in their class groups. At the end of a difficult senior cycle, these few days were a timely reminder of how they had bonded as a group down through the years and the strong feelings they held for the school, their teachers and, most importantly, for each other.

Thursday’s events began with a delivery to each of the students’ houses. A convoy of teachers and SNAs delivered gift bags containing each student’s graduation certificate, the year book, some fancy chocolates and a red rose. Students were encouraged to dress in their school uniforms for one last day and pose for photos, with their families, at their front doors.

The evening’s online event was a tremendous success and was attended by all of the students and their families, along with all of the school’s teaching and non-teaching staff and invited guests. Months of careful planning by Ms Sinéad Murray, Ms Fidelma Ní Mhurchú (Year Head) and Mr Enda Forde ensured that it was a highly professional occasion, with personal meaning for all of the students involved. Ms Patricia Quinn acted as MC and events began with a religious service, led by Chaplain, Ms Roseanne Sinnott, followed by a message from Ms Nuala Fox, Chairperson of the Board of Management. Ms Ní Mhurchú then addressed her charges for the final time, wishing them success and happiness in their future lives. This was followed by final class roll calls where each student’s 1st and 6th Year photos featured, introduced by Class Tutors Ms Quinn, Ms Laura O’Shea, Mr John Leonard and Ms Lorraine Kells. The graduating students were at the centre of the evening and they were brilliantly represented in a series of moving reflective pieces, in a gratitude video and in a number of other slideshows and videos which opened and closed proceedings. Students also took leading reading and singing parts in the liturgy. Ms Louise O’Sullivan prepared the singers and the musical aspects of the evening.

Mr John Murphy, Principal, brought proceedings to a close, extending good wishes to those taking examinations and congratulating the new graduates on behalf of the whole school community. He reminded them that St Kilian’s will always be their school and that, although graduating, they will continue to be valued members of the school community.
