Musicals such as Grease,West Side Story, Calamity Jane and My Fair Lady, many directed by Frank Kelly, Brendan Fitzpatrick and Caroline Lundy, have electrified local audiences and have been a touchstone for other local musical groups. The Girls' Choir and the Traditional Group have also contributed hugely to the cultural life of the school over the years.
Among the sporting activities available to the students are soccer, Gaelic football, hurling, basketball, orienteering, table-tennis and frisbee! Hill-walking and rock-climbing are also very popular with students.
The school is very proud of the achievements of its past-pupils who have gone on to success in many sporting arenas. Katie Taylor has rewritten the sporting history books for her achievements in boxing and soccer, and as an Olympic gold medallist is the school's most famous past-pupil.
Debating, Build-a-Bank and quiz teams have also recorded notable successes in recent times.
One of the pinnacles of the school's history came in 2000, when a school Maths team won the Group prize and the Intel prize in the Young Scientists competition. In the following year, a school team was named the overall winner of the Young Scientist competition.
