SOUNDWAVES MUSIC FESTIVAL: WELCOME!
Monday, 8 May to Friday, 12 May
A word of welcome from Ms O’Sullivan
Welcome to St Kilian’s first ever Soundwaves Music Festival which will take place from Monday, 8 May to Friday, 12 May. We are very privileged and delighted to have so much participation from across the school community and from a very distinguished panel of artists who are giving of their time in the middle of busy international music schedules.
One of the Music Syllabus aims is to promote ‘a culture of creative enjoyable engagement with Music’. I am passionate that people will love music if they feel it, experience it, hear it, and never close their minds to hearing things that sound differently. Essentially, it is life experience to attune oneself to the other (whoever that may be) and accept that it may not be the same as me but will only enhance and enlarge my world view. This is what I am hoping will happen in some small way this week for all of us: to hear the other.
I would like to thank our principal, Mr John Murphy, and the dedicated staff of St Kilian’s without whose support and encouragement this would not be possible. Finally, thank you to all our wonderful fun-loving students who are coordinating and participating in all of the events.
We want to welcome you all wholeheartedly to any of the events and hope you have a fantastic time with us.
Louise O’Sullivan (Music Department, May 2017)
