School Meals, Lunch Breaks, Covid-19

Fri, Sep 18th, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As we come to the end of our third week back at school, I want to thank you all for your support during this time. The school reopening has been very successful and this is due to the hard work and great collaboration of everyone involved.

It has been great to have the students back on-site. The changed school arrangements are not easy for them, but they have been very positive, understanding and cooperative. Please continue to remind them of the importance of masks, social distancing, hand washing and sanitising.

 1. School Meals

  • Our School Meals scheme will begin next Monday, September 21st.
  • This is a completely free scheme.
  • Every day, each student will be supplied with a light breakfast and a more substantial lunch.
  • The company contracted to prepare and deliver the food is called Carambola.
  • Students need to register on the Carambola website.
  • Tomorrow, during Class Tutor time, students will be given individual letters with details of how to log in.
  • They will have unique passwords, which they will change once they are on the Carambola site.
  • We hope to have most of the students logged in before they go home tomorrow.
  • Please ask your son/daughter for their letter so that you can understand the process too.
  • By logging onto the Carambola site by any Friday night, students can order their choice of food for each day of the following week.

2. Schools Road Playground

  • We have had reports of young people behaving badly in the playground on Schools Road.
  • These reports have come from the Council, from parents and from local residents.
  • The reports relate to lunchtime for our Junior School (1.10pm to 1.50pm) and outside of school hours, in the evenings and at the weekends.
  • Not all of the young people involved, who are mostly aged from about 10 to 14 years of age, are students at St Kilian’s.
  • However, during lunchtime the incidents relate mostly to some First Year students at our school.
  • From tomorrow, Friday September 18th, the Schools Road Playground is out of bounds to all of St Kilian’s students during lunchtimes.
  • Students are also reminded that the school’s Code of Behaviour applies to them going to and from school and at any time while in school uniform.
  • We are looking at keeping all First Years on-site at all times from 8.40am to 3.50pm. This is something that we haven’t done previously.
  • It is regrettable that the behaviour of a small number of students is affecting the reputation of a really excellent group of First Year students.

 3. Covid-19

In relation to the ongoing public health concerns, and to safeguard the wellbeing of the school community, I would like to remind parents/guardians of the following:

  • Students should not attend school if displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 including
    •  High temperature
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or breathing difficulties
    • Loss of smell, of taste or distortion of taste
  • Please note the following very important HSE advice:Students must remain at home if they or a family member are awaiting a Covid-19 test, or are awaiting results of a test. Please contact the School Office (01-2828126) if this is the case.
    • Children with a blocked or runny nose, but no fever can attend school or childcare, but if they require paracetamol or ibuprofen for their symptoms, they must not attend school for 48 hours and GP assessment for testing is indicated.

  • Students returning from countries that are not on the Green List must quarantine for the appropriate period of time that is advised at that time.

I thank you, in advance, for your support in relation to all of the above.

I wish you and your families well in these continued uncertain times.

Yours sincerely,

John Murphy,
